In the early hours of October 11, 1908, a tragedy unfolded in the bustling railroad yards of Cravens Yard in Chattanooga, Tennessee, that would claim the life of a dedicated lawman. Railroad Detective Thomas Jackson McElhaney, a 41-year-old male, was shot and killed at approximately 1:30 a.m. while on duty. The incident left a wife and seven children to mourn his sudden and violent passing.
