In a tragic turn of events on a Sunday evening in Nashville, a father's visit to a residential program for young men ended in his untimely death. Michael Harvell, a 44-year-old man, was fatally shot on October 6, 2024, outside the 4:13 Strong nonprofit organization. The incident unfolded after Harvell and his wife arrived at the facility to meet with staff concerning their son, who was a resident in the program.
The preceding day, an altercation had reportedly taken place among
residents, during which Harvell's stepson was allegedly assaulted. In response, his parents had removed him from the property. They returned on Sunday for a meeting to address the situation with both the program staff and other residents. It was during this visit that another dispute apparently broke out among the residents.
Amidst the turmoil, a 19-year-old resident named Malik Turrentine emerged from one of the buildings. Following a confrontation, Turrentine fatally shot Harvell. Security footage captured the moment of the shooting before Turrentine fled the scene. Harvell, who was reportedly visiting his child, was caught in the crossfire.
Following the incident, the Metro Nashville Police Department issued a homicide warrant for Malik Turrentine, cautioning that he was to be considered armed and dangerous. Turrentine, who was reportedly in the 4:13 Strong program by court order, was already on probation for prior drug and gun charges from a February arrest. He was later apprehended by police after a foot chase when he was seen leaving a store on Dickerson Pike.
