Benjamin F. Dowell, a 27-year-old male police officer with the Nashville City Police Department, was tragically shot and killed on December 7, 1903. Patrolman Dowell was on duty, standing at his post awaiting relief when two men approached him. One of these men was someone Dowell had previously arrested, along with the suspect's sister.
