In the autumn of 2024, the life of 15-year-old Genesis Sarahi Medina Gonzales, a Hispanic female, was tragically cut short in a violent shooting in Nashville, Tennessee. On the evening of October 5th, Genesis was at Smith Springs Park and had arranged for a male acquaintance to pick her up. When he arrived, he found her in the company of two other males and a female.
As Genesis and her acquaintance began walking towards his vehicle, the sound of gunshots suddenly pierced the evening air.
In the ensuing chaos, the two males and the female who had been with Genesis fled the scene. Genesis cried out that she had been shot. Her acquaintance quickly got her into his vehicle and rushed her to Southern Hills Medical Center. From there, she was transferred to the pediatric unit at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but tragically, she succumbed to her multiple gunshot wounds.
The investigation into the homicide is being handled by the Metro Nashville Police Department's Homicide Unit. Detectives learned that Genesis had a history of running away and had recently been reported as a runaway from Arkansas by her mother. The man who picked her up from the park cooperated with investigators, recounting the events of that fatal evening.
Despite pursuing active leads in the case, authorities have not yet publicly identified any suspects in the shooting death of Genesis Sarahi Medina Gonzales. No arrests have been made in connection with her murder. The community has mourned the loss of the young girl, with vigils held in her memory. Police have urged anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward as they continue their efforts to bring those responsible for her death to justice.
