In the early morning hours of October 13, 2024, a tragic shooting in Nashville claimed the life of 25-year-old Raybon 'Ray Ray' Da'monta Porter, a Black male. The incident occurred at approximately 2:40 a.m. in the parking lot of the Illuzion Bar & Lounge located at 2510 Murfreesboro Pike in South Nashville. Porter had been at the lounge with friends and was leaning into a friend's car window, engaged in conversation, when the fatal events unfolded.
At least two vehicles entered the
parking lot, and their occupants began to open fire. Amid the chaos, Porter was struck in the back. He was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Investigators with the Metro Nashville Police Department have stated that it does not appear Porter was the intended target of the gunfire, suggesting he was an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire. The motive for the shooting remains unclear, and authorities have not yet determined if the shots were aimed at specific individuals or fired indiscriminately.
As of now, the investigation into Raybon Porter's death is ongoing, and no arrests have been made in connection with the homicide. Police have not publicly identified any suspects. The Illuzion Bar & Lounge has reportedly been the scene of other violent incidents, raising concerns about safety in the area. Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers, offering the possibility of a cash reward for information leading to an arrest. Porter is remembered by his family as a positive and encouraging presence and leaves behind a young son.
