In the winter of 2016, a life was tragically cut short in Nashville, Tennessee, leaving a family searching for answers that have yet to come. Eric Gray, a 23-year-old African American man, was fatally wounded on the evening of December 17th in a shootout that erupted in the parking lot of the Cayce Homes apartment complex in East Nashville. Remembered as a loving and caring individual, his sudden death left a profound void in the lives of his family and friends.
The night of the incident
began with a verbal altercation. Gray was engaged in a conversation with individuals in a car when two other men began shouting at him from across the parking lot. The argument escalated, drawing in Marris Wynne and his brother, Maurice. In the ensuing chaos, gunfire broke out. A bullet struck Eric Gray in the chest. He was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but his injury proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead. Maurice Wynne was also injured in the shootout but ultimately survived.
In the immediate aftermath, Metro Police detectives began their investigation into the homicide. According to their initial findings, the individuals responsible for the shooting were described as two Black men in their late teens or early twenties. Despite this general description, no arrests have ever been made in connection with Eric Gray's death.
