On August 17, 2023, at approximately 4:02 p.m., Pittsburgh police responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of Beechview and Broadway Avenues in the Beechview neighborhood. Upon arrival, officers found 21-year-old Carl J. Meyers lying in a grassy area near the sidewalk, critically wounded by gunfire. He was immediately transported to UPMC Mercy Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries two days later.
