In the early morning hours of October 2, 2023, tragedy struck a home in the Lawncrest section of Philadelphia, leaving a family and a community in mourning. Inside the residence on the 6100 block of Shelbourne Street, police discovered a horrific scene. Sixty-one-year-old Gregory L. Doram, a male, was found deceased, a victim of gun violence. He was not the only one to lose his life that day. Alongside him were his wife, 63-year-old Denise Snead-Doram, and 42-year-old Nina O'Brien.
All three had been shot in the head. A fourth victim, a 43-year-old woman, was also found at the scene, critically injured but alive after being shot in the eye.
Neighbors and family remembered Gregory Doram as a kind and friendly man, a regular presence in the neighborhood who always had a cheerful greeting for everyone. One neighbor fondly recalled how Gregory would bring donuts for his son every Sunday after church. His nephew described him and his wife as loving, outgoing people who were always smiling and willing to do anything for anybody. The sudden and violent loss of the Dorams and Nina O'Brien sent shockwaves through their community.
The suspect in the brutal slayings was identified as 41-year-old Jahad Snead, who was related to the victims. A motive for the shooting was not immediately made public. After fleeing the scene, Snead was located by police a few hours later in the East Mount Airy section of the city. When officers attempted to pull over the vehicle he was in, Snead fired at them. Police returned fire, striking and critically injuring him. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later. An officer sustained minor injuries from broken glass during the confrontation. The death of the suspect brought a swift and violent end to the investigation, leaving a grieving family to grapple with the immense loss of three of their loved ones.
