On March 5, 2024, at approximately 6:38 p.m., 37-year-old Carmelo Drayton was fatally shot aboard a Route 79 SEPTA bus near the intersection of South Broad Street and Snyder Avenue in South Philadelphia. The incident began with an argument between Drayton and another passenger, which escalated when the assailant produced a firearm and shot Drayton multiple times. Drayton sustained several gunshot wounds and was transported to Jefferson Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
