On a summer afternoon in South Philadelphia, on August 5, 1993, 31-year-old Michael Ciancaglini was walking with his close associate, Joey Merlino. It was around 1:30 p.m. when their stroll through the heart of the city's mob stronghold was violently interrupted. A white car pulled up, and two gunmen wearing baseball caps unleashed a volley of 10 to 15 shots from semiautomatic or automatic weapons.
