On a Tuesday evening, September 26, 2017, the life of 16-year-old Jai Custus, a Black male, was tragically cut short. The incident occurred at approximately 8:38 p.m. on the 100 block of East Pastorius Street in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia, the very block where he resided. Gunfire erupted in what police believe was a shootout, and Jai was caught in the crossfire. He was struck once in the back.
