On the evening of August 16, 2024, 32-year-old Brasheed H. Cook, a male resident of Philadelphia, was taking one of his customary walks near Tacony Creek Park. At approximately 7:36 p.m., in the 700 block of East Olney Avenue, the sound of as many as five gunshots shattered the evening calm. When Philadelphia Police officers arrived at the scene, they found Cook suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was rushed to Jefferson Einstein Hospital, but despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries.
Brasheed, affectionately known as 'Sheed' and 'Black' to his friends and family, was remembered as a man with a 'heart of gold' who 'wouldn't bother a soul.' Though not overly talkative, he possessed a humorous and loving nature, often making jokes that brought laughter to those around him. He shared a close bond with his mother, Dana, and his siblings, and was considered the heart of the family. A man of many talents, Brasheed was skilled at fixing electronics and had a passion for boxing, a sport he had enjoyed since childhood and was planning to get back into. He was also an active member of his church, where he served on the usher board.
The investigation into Brasheed Cook's murder has been challenging for law enforcement. Investigators canvassed the area where he was shot but did not recover any weapons, and no immediate leads on potential suspects were found. As of now, the case remains unsolved, and no arrests have been made. His grieving family continues to plead for justice, remembering a kind-hearted man who was a straight-A student at Olney High School and whose life was tragically cut short just a week after his 32nd birthday. The Philadelphia Police Department encourages anyone with information to come forward as they continue their investigation.
