On the evening of Monday, May 23, 2022, a gathering on a front porch in Philadelphia's Germantown neighborhood turned into a scene of violence that claimed the life of 37-year-old Anton Ellis. A Black male, Ellis was on the 100 block of West Logan Street when an argument is believed to have escalated into a fatal shooting. The incident unfolded around 9:11 p.m.
in front of more than 20 witnesses who were also on the porch and steps of the residence.
According to witnesses, at least three individuals opened fire, discharging more than a dozen shots. Ellis was struck multiple times in the back. In the immediate aftermath, he was placed into a private vehicle to be transported to the hospital. Responding Philadelphia Police officers intercepted the vehicle and followed it to Temple University Hospital. Despite the efforts to save him, Anton Ellis was pronounced deceased at the hospital at 9:33 p.m.
Investigators were hopeful that surveillance footage from nearby cameras would aid in identifying the shooters. The investigation progressed, and on May 30, 2022, the Philadelphia Police Department arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of Anton Ellis. The case is now considered solved by the police, with the outcome pending trial.
