In the Germantown section of Philadelphia, on the afternoon of March 25, 2021, a burst of gunfire shattered the day's calm. When the echoes faded, 32-year-old Julius Anthony Chandler, a Black male, was left lying on the 5200 block of Knox Street with multiple gunshot wounds. Philadelphia Police officers responded to the scene at approximately 1:09 p.m. and found Chandler grievously wounded. Despite the immediate arrival of medical personnel, his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Chandler's death was launched immediately, with detectives from the Philadelphia Police Department's Homicide Unit taking the lead. In the days and months that followed, the case remained a focal point for investigators, but an arrest proved elusive. The motive for the shooting was not immediately clear, and with no suspect in custody, the case went cold.
