On the evening of April 13, 2024, Edward "Eddy" Gibson, a 36-year-old resident of West Elizabeth, Pennsylvania, was fatally shot outside Beer Belly's bar located on 5th Street. The incident occurred around 10:38 p.m., when Allegheny County 9-1-1 received reports of a shooting at the establishment. First responders arrived to find two adult male victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
Gibson was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
Witnesses reported that the shooting took place in the bar's parking lot. According to a criminal complaint, a witness observed both gunshot victims escorting Jacob Snyder, 26, out a side door toward a patio, after which shots were fired. The witness noted that no one else was present on the patio at the time of the shooting. Following the incident, the suspect fled on foot. Authorities identified Snyder as the shooter and apprehended him shortly thereafter at a Dollar General store in Jefferson Hills, approximately a mile and a half from the crime scene. A firearm registered to Snyder was recovered during the investigation.
Snyder, a resident of Donora, Pennsylvania, was charged with criminal homicide, attempted homicide, and aggravated assault. He was taken to the Allegheny County Jail, where he awaited his preliminary arraignment. The second victim, identified as Thomas Carlin, was treated for his injuries and remained in stable condition.
Edward Gibson was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and worked as a skilled auto collision technician and painter. He had a passion for motorcycles and cherished spending time with his two sons, Cameron and Harvey. Gibson is survived by his father, Edward D. Gibson, his sons, siblings, girlfriend Brittany Morrow, and other family members. He was preceded in death by his mother, Tais Gibson, and his grandparents. Funeral services were held on April 18, 2024, at the Paul E. Bekavac Funeral Home in Elizabeth, Pennsylvania.
