In the Juniata Park neighborhood of Philadelphia, a young life was abruptly cut short on a Wednesday afternoon. Nineteen-year-old Miguel Colon, a Hispanic male, was found inside his silver Honda CRV on the 4000 block of Howard Street on April 13, 2016. He had been shot multiple times.
Police officers responded to the scene at approximately 1:59 p.m. and discovered Colon gravely wounded.
He was rushed to Temple University Hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead that afternoon. Investigators determined that Colon had been struck by gunfire to his head, chest, and arm.
According to detectives, Colon had just pulled onto the block and stopped his vehicle for an unknown reason. With his window down, an unknown gunman approached and opened fire. Despite the presence of several surveillance cameras on the street, no weapon was recovered at the scene, and police did not find any shell casings.
The murder stunned the local community, which was described as having many resident children and a nearby daycare. As of the latest available information, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and the case remains an unsolved murder. The Philadelphia Police Department continues to seek information from the public to bring closure to the case.
