In a quiet home on Second Street in Cardale, a sudden act of violence shattered a friendship and ended the life of 73-year-old James E. Tucker Jr. on the morning of May 24, 2024. Tucker, a male resident of Republic, PA, was visiting his friend, 75-year-old Edmund Parson, when the unexpected occurred.
According to authorities, Tucker and another individual were with Parson in his living room.
For reasons that remain unclear, Parson allegedly retrieved a pistol from a storage box and shot Tucker twice. The other visitor present at the scene managed to wrestle the firearm away from Parson, sustaining minor injuries in the process. There was reportedly no argument or dispute that preceded the deadly shooting. The Fayette County District Attorney, Mike Aubele, described the situation as very unusual, stating that witness accounts indicated Parson had been 'acting erratically that morning.'
Emergency services were called to the Redstone Township residence around 11 a.m. Tucker was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia, where he was ultimately pronounced dead. His death was later attributed to gun violence.
Pennsylvania State Police promptly took Edmund Parson into custody. He was treated for any injuries before being incarcerated. Parson now faces a criminal homicide charge for the death of his friend and is being held in the Fayette County Prison without bond. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
