On September 2, 2024, 22-year-old Dylan Christopher Saula of North Versailles, Pennsylvania, was found deceased on Lysle Boulevard in McKeesport. First responders arrived shortly before 11 a.m. following reports of a man lying in the street and discovered Saula with a fatal gunshot wound to the back of his head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Surveillance footage from a nearby business captured a red sedan at the scene, with occupants pushing a body, later identified as Saula, out of the vehicle before fleeing. Shortly after, authorities located the abandoned vehicle on Pirl Street. A police K-9 unit tracked scents from the car to a residence on Hamilton Street, where four individuals were detained. Among them was 17-year-old Daemond Artemus of McKeesport.
Witnesses informed police that Artemus had arranged to purchase drugs from Saula. When Saula entered the vehicle, a gunshot was heard, after which Artemus allegedly ordered the driver to leave the scene. Artemus was subsequently charged with criminal homicide and firearm violations, including carrying a gun without a license and possession of a firearm by a minor. He is currently held at the Allegheny County Jail without bail, awaiting a preliminary hearing scheduled for September 13, 2024.
Saula's death has deeply affected his family and the local community. Described as a "people person" with a smile that could light up a room, he was a beloved son, brother, and uncle. His funeral services were held at Alfieri Funeral Home in Wilmerding, followed by a service at St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church in Monroeville, and he was laid to rest at Grandview Cemetery in North Versailles.
