On November 2, 2024, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Harrisburg police responded to reports of shots fired near Hunter and Nectarine Streets. Upon arrival, officers discovered 34-year-old Darius Stukes suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite prompt medical attention, Stukes succumbed to his injuries.
Investigations revealed that earlier that evening, Stukes had been picked up from his York County residence by 38-year-old Harrisburg resident, Lateef Phoenix.
The two, accompanied by two women, proceeded to the Political Club on Vernon Street in Harrisburg. Phoenix remained outside, as he was not permitted entry. Inside the club, Stukes reportedly distributed his phone number, indicating he was available to sell marijuana.
After leaving the club, the group traveled to the vicinity of Swatara and Nectarine Streets. Phoenix allegedly instructed everyone to exit the vehicle. As Stukes insisted on walking one of the women home, Phoenix approached from behind and fired a gunshot. Witnesses reported hearing Stukes exclaim, "What did I do?" before collapsing. Phoenix then returned to his residence on Rolleston Street, where he was observed behaving erratically and attempting to destroy evidence, including "wiping" two cell phones.
Authorities have charged Phoenix with first-degree murder, tampering with evidence, possession of a firearm prohibited, and carrying a firearm without a license. As of December 7, 2024, Phoenix remains at large, and law enforcement agencies are actively seeking information regarding his whereabouts.
