In the late evening of March 27, 2022, Kenneth Scott Cobb, a 59-year-old White male, was working his shift as a well-known and beloved cab driver in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Known to his friends and regular customers as 'Bird,' he was sitting in his taxi near the Amtrak station on Grace Street when his life was abruptly and violently cut short. A man approached the driver's side of the cab and fired several shots, killing Cobb in what police believe was a targeted attack. The incident marked the eighth homicide in the city that year.
The investigation into Cobb's murder quickly led authorities to a suspect, Hezekiah Campbell. Surveillance footage from the Amtrak station captured a man matching Campbell's description walking up to the taxi, firing the fatal shots, and then fleeing the scene toward the Mulberry Street Bridge. Investigators were able to track the suspect's path from other surveillance videos to a residence on Derry Street.
A search warrant was executed at the home, where police found clothing that appeared to match what the suspect was wearing in the videos.
A significant piece of evidence discovered during the search was a notebook belonging to Campbell. In a chilling entry dated March 29, just two days after the murder, Campbell had written his own name at the top of the page and confessed to the crime, stating, 'I shot him.' The journal entry also included a reference to 'killing again.' When questioned by police, Campbell admitted to writing the confession and acknowledged that the person in the surveillance images 'looks like me.'
The evidence against Campbell mounted as investigators also recovered a Smith & Wesson 9mm firearm and ammunition from his residence. The ammunition was particularly distinctive, with a rare 'LVE' headstamp and a rose/copper color. This unique ammunition became a crucial link to another unsolved homicide. Police determined that the same type of casings were found at the scene of the December 28, 2021, shooting death of 71-year-old Kathryn Person under the Mulberry Street bridge, a short distance from Campbell's home. This discovery led to Campbell being charged with Person's murder as well.
Hezekiah Campbell was arrested and charged with criminal homicide and carrying a firearm without a license in connection with the death of Kenneth Cobb. According to court documents, he has been incarcerated since 2022. While awaiting trial for the two homicides, Campbell faced further legal trouble. In January 2025, he was charged with first-degree murder for the death of a fellow inmate, Spencer Kassel, at SCI Camp Hill. Campbell allegedly attacked and stabbed Kassel in a recreation yard. As of early 2025, Hezekiah Campbell was still awaiting trial for the two initial Harrisburg homicides.
