On February 5, 2023, 29-year-old Stephon Harris was found deceased from a gunshot wound in the 200 block of Gatlin Farm Road, approximately four miles northeast of Raeford, North Carolina. Upon arrival, Hoke County Sheriff's deputies discovered Harris unresponsive, and emergency medical services confirmed his death at the scene.
The Hoke County Sheriff's Office, in collaboration with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, promptly initiated a homicide investigation.
Within two days, on February 7, 2023, authorities arrested two individuals in connection with Harris's death. Jamarie Andrew Hernandez and Selemia Jasniqua-Shena Love were taken into custody without incident and charged with murder. Both suspects were held in the Hoke County Jail without bond.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Harris's death remained active, with law enforcement urging anyone with additional information to contact Detective Chavis at the Hoke County Sheriff's Office.
In the wake of his passing, Harris's family and friends mourned his loss. He was remembered as a father to several children and a cherished member of his community. A celebration of his life was held on February 12, 2023, at the Pauline T. Buie Chapel in Raeford.
