The sheriff's office discovered multiple gaming machines in the back of the business, which further highlighted the illicit nature of the establishment.

The investigation into Morshed's murder led to the arrest of 22-year-old Kevin Malique Ford from Fairmont, North Carolina. Ford was charged with first-degree murder and was held without bond. The Hoke County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the Robeson County Sheriff's Office and the Fairmont Police Department, determined that several suspects had conspired to commit the crime. Detectives continued to search for additional suspects involved in the shooting.
