On August 9, 2023, in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, 15-year-old Parker James-Allen McNeal was unintentionally shot by a 14-year-old friend while in his bedroom. The firearm involved did not belong to Parker or his family, who were unaware of its presence in their home. Parker was immediately transported to Norfolk Sentara General Hospital in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on August 12, 2023.
