Kaleb Mathais Bilger, a 20-year-old male of mixed ethnicity, tragically passed away on October 18, 2020, in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Born on December 30, 1999, in Chesapeake, Virginia, Kaleb was known for his love of designer clothes and shoes, as well as his creative spirit and willingness to help others. He is survived by his parents, Julius Timothy Miller and Melissa Dawn Bilger, his sister Juliana Miller, his brother Kai Miller, and numerous other family members and friends.
The circumstances surrounding Kaleb's death were the result of a violent altercation. Brandon Kason Boyd, Kaleb's cousin, was convicted of first-degree murder in connection with Kaleb's death. According to witness testimony, Boyd shot Kaleb over a failed drug deal. Kaleb was supposed to travel to California to purchase marijuana, but the deal went wrong, and Boyd lost $800 that he had contributed to the purchase. When Kaleb returned without the drugs, Boyd became enraged and confronted him, ultimately leading to the shooting.
Boyd was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and interference with an electronic monitoring device. He was convicted and sentenced to life without the possibility of parole for the murder, along with additional sentences for the other charges.
