In the early morning hours of January 10, 1990, on windward Oahu, the last known traces of Mildred Gumbo began to thin out—until they abruptly ended. Sometime after she was last seen, she vanished into the darkness, and what followed would leave investigators piecing together a short, brutal span of time from scattered sightings and a silent car.
