On the night of May 18, 2024, 22-year-old Joris Bernard Cooper Jr. was fatally shot in Raleigh, North Carolina. The incident occurred around 11:49 p.m. near the intersection of Sherman Avenue and Clanton Street. Cooper was walking to a Taco Bell on Western Boulevard when he was attacked. Emergency responders transported him to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Approximately an hour later, at 12:50 a.m., a second shooting took place at the intersection of Gorman Street and Sherman Avenue, just a few blocks from the first incident. A man was found with serious gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital. Authorities have not released his identity, and it remains unclear whether the two shootings are connected.
In the aftermath of Cooper's death, his mother, Tyrika Roary, expressed profound grief, describing her son as a respectful and kind individual who "didn't deserve this." She emphasized the deep loss felt by family and friends.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with Cooper's death. The Raleigh Police Department, with assistance from North Carolina State University Police, continues to investigate the case. They urge anyone with information to come forward to aid in their efforts to bring those responsible to justice.
