On the evening of November 14, 2018, a tragic and violent series of events unfolded at a Chevron gas station located at the intersection of University Avenue and Pryor Road in Atlanta, Georgia. This incident resulted in the death of 23-year-old Gamaya Hampton, a Black / African American male. The altercation, which escalated into a fatal shootout, was reportedly the result of a drug deal that had gone awry.
The situation began when a drug transaction was allegedly organized between
Hampton and a man named Issac Cullins. Cullins' cousin, Lamisha Cullins, was also present and reportedly facilitated the meeting. For reasons that led to a violent escalation, gunfire erupted between Hampton and Issac Cullins. In the crossfire, both Gamaya Hampton and Lamisha Cullins were struck and tragically died at the scene.
Issac Cullins also sustained gunshot wounds during the exchange of fire. He was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment of his non-life-threatening injuries. Following his medical treatment, Atlanta police arrested the then 23-year-old Cullins. He was subsequently charged with two counts of felony murder in connection with the deaths of both Gamaya Hampton and his own cousin, Lamisha Cullins. After his arrest, Cullins was slated to be booked into the Fulton County Jail upon his release from the hospital. At the time of the incident, he was reportedly out on bond for previous obstruction of an officer and drug charges.
