On August 11, 2024, a fatal shooting occurred at the MARTA Arts Center station in Midtown Atlanta, Georgia. The victim, Demarco Mathis, a 45-year-old resident of Stone Mountain, Georgia, was found by a MARTA security guard in the bus loop area with multiple gunshot wounds around 9 p.m..
Mathis was subsequently transported to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries and died.
