Jose Juan Melendez Jr., a 31-year-old Hispanic male, was tragically killed on November 29, 2017, in Raleigh, North Carolina. Melendez Jr., a U.S. Army Specialist stationed at Fort Bragg, was on leave and had traveled to Raleigh to spend time with friends. After a night out at the now-closed Black Flower Bar, he was gunned down outside an apartment complex on Raven Road around 3:20 a.m. as he was walking to his car.

was shot five times, including once in the jaw, and was found lying in the parking lot when police arrived. Despite the efforts of law enforcement, no arrests have been made in connection with his murder. The investigation has been challenging due to the lack of video evidence and eyewitnesses. A neighbor reported seeing someone running away from the scene, but no further leads have emerged.
The case remains unsolved, and Melendez Jr.'s family continues to seek justice for their loved one. His father, Andy Ramos, has expressed the family's frustration and heartbreak over the lack of progress in the investigation. The Raleigh Police Department has offered a $20,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest, but so far, no one has come forward with crucial details.
Melendez Jr. served as a nodal network systems operator for the 528th Sustainment Brigade and had previously been a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a decorated soldier, having received numerous awards, including the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and the Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal. His untimely death has left a void in the lives of his family, friends, and fellow soldiers, who continue to honor his memory and service to the country.
