Jose Nicolas Dominguez, a 55-year-old Hispanic male, was found shot to death in front of a building at 2010 Hodge Creek Drive in Raleigh, North Carolina, shortly after 1 a.m. on February 8, 2016. Dominguez was a driver for Amigo Taxi and had been on duty at the time of his death. His body was discovered near his crashed taxi, and it was evident that he had been fatally wounded.
The investigation into Dominguez's death led to the arrest of Major Earl Edwards Jr., a 25-year-old male from
Louisburg, North Carolina. Edwards was charged with murder in connection with the shooting. The police suspected that more than one person was involved in the crime, but no other arrests were made at the time. Dominguez's coworkers believed that he was robbed and assaulted, although authorities did not confirm whether he was robbed.
The homicide investigation remained ongoing, and Dominguez's coworkers and friends continued to mourn his loss. They described him as a charismatic, happy, and friendly individual who had been a great coworker. The community honored Dominguez by circling the Wake County Justice Center with Amigo taxis displaying "RIP 13" on their back windows.
