In a senseless act of violence that has shaken a Raleigh community, 15-year-old Cayden Alston-Arnold was shot and killed in his own home on Friday, March 20, 2026. The tragic event unfolded on Springshire Court, where the Southeast Raleigh High School freshman was fatally wounded in what his family says was a dispute over a pair of designer jeans.
According to Cayden's father, two juvenile friends came to their house around 11 a.m.
with the intention of buying a pair of jeans that Cayden was selling. A disagreement reportedly erupted when the two individuals refused to pay for the clothing. When Cayden declined to hand over the jeans without payment, one of the teens allegedly shot him. The father, who was not home at the time, later saw the two boys on his Ring camera. He stated that he had previously told his son not to have those individuals over to the house.
After being shot, Cayden's aunt, who was in the house, called 911. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. His father described the heartbreaking scene inside their home, with his son's blood in multiple rooms as the teenager apparently tried to clean it up before help arrived.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Raleigh police arrested one of the juveniles who was at the house. Due to the suspect's age, his identity has not been publicly released. The family has been left to grieve the loss of a son and friend, with his father describing Cayden as his only child.
