Jewan Merkel Philip, a 22-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on July 11, 2020, in Raleigh, North Carolina. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, around 1:42 a.m., on the 1600 block of Burgundy Street. Raleigh police officers responded to a call concerning a shooting and upon arrival, they found Philip suffering from a gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to WakeMed, where he succumbed to his injuries later that afternoon.
