Vernon Jerome Jefferys, a 43-year-old African American man, was tragically killed on February 13, 2018, in Raleigh, North Carolina. Jefferys was at home with his wife and teenage son when two armed intruders forced their way into the house. The incident occurred around 10:20 p.m. when someone knocked on the front door. Jefferys' wife answered the door and was shoved inside by the intruders. One of the men forced Jefferys out of the house and into a parking lot, where he was shot and killed.
His wife found him dead after the men fled the scene.
The Raleigh Police Department responded to the shooting call and found Jefferys' body in the 1800 block of Bakers Grove Way. Investigators later released photos of a 2017 white Nissan Rogue that was believed to be operated by the suspects on the night of the murder. A sketch of one of the suspects was also released ten days after the incident. Despite these efforts, the suspects remain at large, and the case remains unsolved.
Five years after the murder, the Raleigh Police Department continues to seek information from the public to help solve the case. They have reminded the public that the two suspects are still on the run and have urged anyone with information to contact Raleigh CrimeStoppers. The investigation into Jefferys' death is ongoing, and the police are determined to bring the perpetrators to justice.
