In the late afternoon of a summer day in Brooklyn, tragedy struck 54-year-old Darryl McMillan. On August 21, 2024, at approximately 3:40 p.m., McMillan, a Black man from Queens, was near the PO Reinaldo Salgado Playground on Monroe Street in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood when he was fatally shot in the chest. Emergency responders rushed him to Kings County Hospital, but his life could not be saved, and he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
