Derrick Bell, 42, a Black man from Raleigh, was shot multiple times in the early morning hours of September 12, 2025, on the 1100 block of Pettis Place near Rock Quarry Road. Officers arrived around 2:10–2:15 a.m. and found him gravely wounded; he was rushed to a hospital and later died of his injuries.
