Paul Andrew Hale, a 35-year-old detective with the Raleigh Police Department, was tragically killed on July 11, 1997, while attempting to apprehend a murder suspect. Detective Hale, who had served with the department for seven years, was fatally shot in the head during a stakeout at an apartment building on East Lenoir Street.
