On June 2, 2024, a tragic incident occurred in Maxton, North Carolina, resulting in the death of Nathan Jones, a 54-year-old man from Pembroke. Robeson County Sheriff's deputies responded to a call and upon arrival, they found Jones deceased inside a vehicle. He had succumbed to a gunshot wound.
