On January 9, 2023, at approximately 10:22 p.m., 50-year-old Reginald Thawney was fatally shot in a playground within the Plaza Residences apartment complex at 37 New Lots Avenue in Brownsville, Brooklyn. Responding officers from the 73rd Precinct found Thawney with a gunshot wound to his chest. Emergency Medical Services transported him to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
