In the early morning hours of a Sunday in March, a street confrontation in Brooklyn turned deadly, claiming the life of 30-year-old Jose Flores. The incident, which unfolded on March 13, 2022, began with a minor traffic collision and quickly escalated into a fatal shooting.
Flores, a resident of Flatlands, was driving his white Nissan Rogue in the Brownsville neighborhood when he was involved in a fender-bender with a light gray Infiniti Q50 at the intersection of Tapscott Street and
Blake Avenue. Following the minor accident, both Flores and the driver of the Infiniti exited their vehicles. An argument ensued, during which the other driver reportedly brandished a firearm.
Attempting to flee the escalating situation, Flores got back into his vehicle, but the driver of the Infiniti pursued him. The chase ended with the suspect shooting Flores in the torso before speeding away from the scene. The shooting occurred at approximately 4:32 a.m. near the Tapscott Rehab Houses.
Officers from the 73rd Precinct responded to a 911 call and found Flores with a gunshot wound. Emergency medical services rushed him to Brookdale University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. A father of a young boy, Flores was remembered by his family as a hardworking construction worker who was always smiling and never had problems with anyone.
Law enforcement launched an investigation into the homicide and released surveillance footage of the suspect and the Infiniti, which had noticeable rear-end damage on the passenger side. Despite these efforts and appeals to the public for information, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and the case remains open.
