On January 19, 2023, at approximately 8:50 p.m., 15-year-old Josue Lopez-Ortega was fatally shot in the head outside the Police Athletic League's New South Bronx Center on Longwood Avenue. He and a 16-year-old companion were leaving a sporting event when an unidentified assailant approached them, fired multiple shots, and fled the scene in a gray Jeep Renegade.
