On a tragic afternoon in Syracuse, New York, the life of 26-year-old Khadeem Jamante Conley was cut short. On April 3, 2023, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Conley was fatally shot in the chest on Temple Place, near Parkway Drive. Despite being rushed to Upstate Hospital by emergency responders, he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting revealed a prior dispute between Conley and another man, 20-year-old Melchizedek Pearson.
This disagreement escalated into a violent confrontation on that Monday afternoon. Pearson allegedly chased Conley around Temple Place, firing multiple shots as Conley attempted to flee. One of these bullets struck Conley in the chest, inflicting the fatal wound.
Shortly after the shooting, Pearson was located nearby on West Colvin Street, suffering from a gunshot wound to his midsection. He was also transported to Upstate Hospital and was expected to survive his injuries.
Following the investigation into the incident, authorities arrested Melchizedek Pearson. He was subsequently charged with second-degree murder for the death of Khadeem Conley. Additionally, he faced charges of second-degree attempted murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Pearson was arraigned on the charges and held without bail.
