On May 25, 2023, at approximately 1:30 a.m., 33-year-old Brooklyn resident Cody Toledo was fatally shot near the intersection of Linwood Street and New Lots Avenue in East New York. Surveillance footage captured the incident, showing an assailant dressed in black approaching Toledo and firing three shots. Toledo sustained gunshot wounds to the chest and right arm. Emergency responders transported him to Brookdale University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
