On a Tuesday evening in April 2017, the sounds of what some mistook for fireworks echoed through a Brooklyn neighborhood. The sharp cracks, however, were gunshots that ended the life of 28-year-old Tiquan Hamilton. The shooting occurred shortly before 9 p.m. in Martinez Playground, a community space at the intersection of Stagg Walk and Manhattan Avenue in East Williamsburg.
