In a quiet cul-de-sac in Gresham, Oregon, the life of 46-year-old Joshua Heinrich, a White male, was tragically cut short on the evening of Tuesday, March 26, 2024. The incident unfolded at a residence in the 600 block of Southwest Linneman Court, where Gresham Police officers were initially dispatched following a report of a disturbance. What they discovered upon their arrival was a scene that would soon evolve into a homicide investigation.
Inside the home, officers found Joshua Heinrich deceased from a gunshot wound. The initial call about a disturbance had escalated, revealing a fatal confrontation had taken place between a father and his son.
During the preliminary investigation at the scene, a subject was detained for questioning. This individual was soon identified as Joshua Heinrich's own son, 19-year-old Myles Rapheal Menefee. As detectives from the Gresham Police Department's Homicide Division delved into the circumstances surrounding the shooting, they determined Menefee's involvement in his father's death. He was subsequently arrested and booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on March 27. The charges brought against him were Murder in the Second Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon, turning a family tragedy into a criminal case.
Joshua Heinrich was remembered as a beloved father, son, grandson, brother, cousin, and friend. Raised in Gresham and a graduate of Gresham High School, he had served in the Marine Corps from 1999 to 2003 as an Airport Rescue Fire Fighting Specialist, earning several commendations during his service. An avid outdoorsman, he found joy in activities such as hiking, fishing, camping, and snowboarding. His unexpected death left behind a loving family, including his daughter, parents, siblings, and his cherished dog, Maverick. A graveside service was held at Willamette National Cemetery to honor his memory.
