In the summer of 2023, a horrific sequence of events unfolded in a Queens, New York, home, leading to the death of 58-year-old Cheryl Myrick. The grim discovery began on July 5, 2023, when a passerby reported a foul odor emanating from a large garbage bag left on the curb on 104th Street in East Elmhurst. Responding officers found the decomposing body of a man, later identified as 31-year-old Kyle Danielson, wrapped in blankets and plastic bags inside.
An autopsy revealed he had been shot and stabbed approximately 50 times in his head, neck, and chest.
The investigation quickly led police to the home shared by the victim and his family. Later that day, officers spotted Kyle's older brother, Roscoe Danielson, 42, pushing his young son in a stroller nearby. A subsequent search of the stroller revealed a 9mm handgun and a knife. After obtaining a search warrant for the family's residence in the early hours of July 6, police made a second tragic discovery. Inside a second-floor bedroom, they found the body of the family matriarch, Cheryl Myrick. She had been brutally stabbed around 38 times in her neck and torso. Investigators determined that both mother and son had been killed on July 4th.
Roscoe Danielson was arrested and charged with the murders of his mother and brother. During a two-week trial, prosecutors laid out the case, detailing how Danielson had violently killed his family members. In September 2025, a jury convicted him on multiple counts, including murder in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon, tampering with physical evidence, and concealment of a human corpse.
Following his conviction, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz described the crime as one of the 'grisliest' ever encountered, highlighting the brutality of the murders and the callous attempt to dispose of his brother's body. In October 2025, Roscoe Danielson was sentenced for the heinous crimes. He received a prison sentence of 50 years to life, ensuring he would be held accountable for the violent deaths of his mother, Cheryl Myrick, and his brother, Kyle Danielson.
