In the late evening hours of September 6, 2023, the East Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn was unsettled by an act of deadly violence. On a stretch of East 39th Street, a 42-year-old man named Gotty Jeanty was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds. Police were called to the scene at approximately 10:00 PM, where they found Jeanty near his home.
Emergency medical services were dispatched to the location between Church and Snyder avenues, but it was too late.
Jeanty was pronounced dead at the scene, his life brought to an abrupt and violent end. The initial investigation by the New York Police Department indicated that he had been shot numerous times throughout his body.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the community was left with questions and a sense of unease. As of the initial reports, authorities had not identified a suspect in the fatal shooting.
