In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Brooklyn, the borough was marked by violence that claimed the life of Anthony Haughton, a 60-year-old man. On May 19, 2024, at approximately 4:29 a.m., police responded to a call in the East New York neighborhood. There, at the corner of Georgia and Wortman Avenues, they discovered Haughton with a gunshot wound to his torso.
Emergency medical services arrived at the scene and quickly transported Haughton to Brookdale University Hospital.
Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. The area, described as an industrial part of the neighborhood, became a crime scene as investigators from the 75th Precinct began their work.
As the sun rose, Crime Scene Unit members were seen canvassing the location for evidence that might shed light on the circumstances leading to the fatal shooting.
