On a Thursday afternoon in the typically quiet neighborhood of Old Mill Basin, Brooklyn, the life of 24-year-old Kendell Walcott, a Black male, was tragically cut short. On September 1, 2016, at approximately 12:40 p.m., gunshots shattered the peace on East 56th Street near Avenue O. Walcott was struck in the chest in what became a fatal shooting. Emergency services rushed him to Kings County Hospital Center, but his injuries proved too severe, and he was pronounced dead.
