On the evening of September 17, 2022, a business transaction in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, turned fatal for a young entrepreneur. Julftson Remy, a 24-year-old male, had driven from his home in Orange, New Jersey, to deliver a black BMW for a rental that had been arranged through Instagram. The deal, which involved a $2,200 cash payment, quickly soured after Remy's employee, who accompanied him, failed to verify the renter's identification before handing over the vehicle.
Upon discovering
the identification was fraudulent, Remy utilized a tracking device he had placed in the BMW to locate the car and confront the individual who had rented it. During this confrontation, the situation escalated violently. Remy was shot multiple times, sustaining wounds to his head and chest, which proved to be fatal. His employee was also shot during the incident but ultimately survived.
The investigation into the murder led authorities to 22-year-old Kevin Faneus, a known member of the Crips gang. Faneus was apprehended less than half a mile from the scene of the crime and was subsequently charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon. At the time of his arrest, Faneus was on parole for a prior conviction of attempted robbery and witness intimidation. Court documents suggest that while Faneus was involved in the crime, he is not believed to be the person who fired the fatal shots. The individual who actually shot Julftson Remy remains at large, and the investigation is ongoing as law enforcement continues to seek justice for the slain business owner.
