William Ortiz, a 30-year-old resident of Brooklyn, New York, was tragically shot and killed on January 17, 2019. Ortiz was visiting his mother’s apartment in the Lafayette Gardens Houses in Clinton Hill to discuss arrangements for his younger brother Terrell Ortiz’s tombstone. Terrell had been murdered 19 months earlier. William was shot in the chest and collapsed in the hallway outside his mother’s 13th-floor apartment. Despite being rushed to Kings County Hospital, he could not be saved.
